Company – Vinove [www.vinove.com]
Interviewee/Founder – Parvesh Aggarwal
A classic fairy tale story with daggers, dungeons, and demons.
No – not really. But it is a story of a product making competition sweat.
Parvesh and team quickly realized that to win in a space of IT services, they needed to remodel their revenue structure. The answer was simple – start building products. And they did. I’d like to showcase 2 of their best products. Each topping their respective industries.
Invoicera.
You know you’re onto something interesting if your competition is a known brand. Invoicera is competing with Freshbooks and Zoho invoice. However the platform integrates with 22 payment gateways – something no one else offers at this time.
It was independently audited as the world’s #2 SaaS based invoicing application.
Initially developed as a desktop version, today it’s offered as a service model with 4 plans and add on services on invoice templates and customizations. The desktop product story is back when Vinove was earning its bread from services, but Parvesh was toying with the idea of products. A few desktop licenses were sold. But customers were asking for more.
And that was all that was needed to kick off a product journey. The desktop application was remodelled for the web and launched online. The product is available on Google Apps Marketplace with a free plan. Enterprises can also host the app on their own network or a private cloud.
Merosys.
I admire companies that can tell what they do with just their logo. Merosys’ logo will tell you what the product does. It’s an online food ordering system for restaurants.
Digitize the menu. Get a computer for your front desk. A computer for the kitchen. Hook them up with an internet connection and get a Merosys account. That’s it.
Parvesh believes there’s huge scope for technology adoption by restaurants in India. Part of me is tempted to believe there’s a huge scope for good restaurants in India – but that’s not the point. “The uptake from the domestic market for SaaS is already very apparent. Our products are moving closer towards the convergence of offline and online channels for the retailer.”
Though the company is doing some interesting things, Parvesh still spends sleepless nights wondering why certain payment gateways in India aren’t biting their proposals and why banks don’t understand the benefit is mutual.
